This collection of insects and spiders are good toys for both girls and boys. However, they have other uses as well. The spiders and ladybug/beetles can be used as pin cushions. Any of them could be fastened to sticks and stuck as decorations in potted plants. Hung on threads, they can be used as shade pulls, car mirror decorations, or Christmas ornaments. The butterflies are especially pretty as a mobile, wall or hair ornament. The spiders, ladybug, beetles are all hand-sewn. In real spiders the abdomen and thorax are joined, so only 2 segments show. You may choose 2 or 3 segments. The bee’s bodies and wings are machine sewn, then assembled by hand. There are two ways to make the wings – soft quilted or wired. The butterflies are made by reverse applique --- several layers of fabrics are machine sewn together, then the outline cut out. With sharp scissors the top layers are cut out to show the contrasting colors underneath.
